A celebration of Tourism Success – BTB’s 16th Annual National Tourism Awards

Industry Stakeholders from San Pedro, Ambergris Caye were once again top winners and stars in this year’s 16th Annual Belize Tourism Board National Tourism Awards. The Gala event which was well-attended by 300+ esteemed guests from all over the country, took center stage on Saturday, October 20th at Caribbean Motors in Belize City. Designed to honor and acknowledge industry partners in the Tourism Sector for their excellence in hospitality and service, the National awards is a major event that recognizes the year’s best tourism products, services, and employees in the industry. Out of twenty awards given for the night, five went to businesses and individuals from Ambergris Caye. Below is a recap of the winner circle. Snagging the top award for Hospitality was the Belize Chocolate factory, a chocolate making company which opened in 2012 and currently boasts two location in San Pedro and Caye Caulker. MEXICO’S AIRLINE TO OFFER SEASONAL NON-STOP FLIGHTS TO BELIZE ON WEEKENDS

Mexico’s Premier Global Airline, Aero Mexico announced today that travelers will now have access to two new seasonal non-stop flights to Belize. Aero Mexico’s flight 67 will make its debut run to Belize on Saturday, November 17th and will end seasonally on April 28th, 2019. A release from the Belize Tourism Board states that the flights will depart Mexico at 8:30 am and will arrive at the Phillip S. W. Goldson International Airport at 10:30 am. Flights from Belize will depart at 12:00 and arrive in Mexico at 2:25 pm. With Mexico’s International Airport being the second busiest airport by passenger traffic in Latin America, Banyan Bay’s Sales Manager, Almi Zul, expressed that, “The new AeroMexico flight route will add to the growing list of international flights into Belize and will offer our Mexican counterparts an opportunity to escape the cold weather of those months and enjoy the warm clime in Belize.” BTB’s Director of Tourism, Karen Bevans added that “the BTB is also dedicated to developing and implementing tourism programs that will help strengthen and grow the Belizean tourism industry; promote good destination stewardship; and instill high quality standards for accommodations.” Aeroméxico is a Mexican airline headquartered in Mexico […]

‘Lobsta fi dayz’ – Festivals not miss in 2018!

Three of the most popular gastronomical summer events in Belize kicks off when the official lobster season opens in June – the San Pedro, Caye Caulker and Placencia Lobsterfests!  Organizers claim there will be big lobster and even bigger fun so save the dates for a triple dose of ‘lobsta fi dayz”; June 15 to 23rd (San Pedro, Ambergris Caye); June 22nd to 24th (Placencia) and culminates on June 29th to July 1st in Caye Caulker. San Pedro Hosts Belize Hotel Association’s Bi-Annual AGM

On Tuesday, December 5th, the Belize Hotel Association gathered in San Pedro for their bi-annual annual general meeting. The stakeholders in the tourism industry and BHA board converged at the conference room at Mahogany Bay Village. Kevin Geban, Master of Ceremonies and honorary BHA member, kept the audience entertained, energized, and enthusiastic throughout the meeting. As is customary, BHA directors presented reports to their membership, as well as plans on activities and advancements in the industry for upcoming months. Several subjects were discussed, which included reach out towards more international traveler markets and advancements in the digital realm to strengthen the local industry and the BHA’s online presence. Ted Tejada, BHA President, expressed his excitement for growth in the organization’s global initiatives and public sector partnerships aimed at increasing the demands and standards of the industry. A marketing scope of the BHA’s plans was delivered by Trinity Castro, who emphasized the importance of tapping into Dutch, European, Canadian and South American source markets (amongst other), based on data collected between 2014-2017. WestJet Inaugurates Non-Stop Flight from Calgary to Belize

On Friday, November 3rd an inaugural direct flight between Calgary, Canada and Belize City, Belize was commemorated with a short ceremony at the Philip Goldson International Airport. This was the first weekly flight of WestJet’s seasonal winter schedule. To welcome this milestone flight to Belize, members of the Canadian Consulate, the Belize Airport Concession Company (BACC), the Belize Tourism Board, and the Belize Hotel Association joined many others at Philip Goldson International Airport. The congregate was addressed by Manuel Heredia, Jr. (Minister of Tourism) and Lynn Young (Canadian Consulate to Belize). Both keynote speakers expressed that the welcoming of an additional major international flight to Belize signifies economic growth as a result of the increasing popularity of Belize as a destination for not only tourists, but also for investors, retirees, and expatriates hailing from Canada. Tourism overnight statistics reveal that 6% of arrivals to Belize in 2016 were from the Canadian Market, and projected to increase in this 2017-2018 winter season.
