Spread Christmas Cheer to less fortunate families in San Pedro!

In a collaborative effort to improve the lives of underprivileged families and their children, Banyan Bay Suites and Grand Colony Island Villas, have joined in on the Merry Boxes Initiative, a project spearheaded by the Rotaract Club of Ambergris Caye. After its impressive debut last holiday season and its resounding success, the Rotaract saw it fit to continue spreading joy to families across San Pedro Town by donating supplies gathered from the community.

Here is how it works: entities and businesses who join have placed a box and encouraging their staff members and the community to drop off their  non-perishable items to give to the families registered at Hope Haven – Belize. Last year, approximately 30 families received a care package from these humanitarian groups and this year’s aim is to double that figure or at least enrich the lives of 50 families.

In addition to this protect, last year’s generosity saw a surplus of monetary donations which the club pledged and hosted 4 dinners for the families at Colleen’s Kitchen at San Pedro Food Bank this year.

Club Member, Kyle Vasquez, expressed his gratitude towards each person and entity that have joined in on this worthy cause; “Your donations help us bring the Magic of Christmas to many.

Anyone wishing to fill a merry box can contact the Rotaract Club of Ambergris Caye or any of its members. Joy to the world this Christmas Season!

Are there any services or activities that tourists can participate in (help)?
Particular needs that we can bring/donate? Or just these basics from the local stores?
We will be in town over Christmas week.

Hi John, Yes you can. There are several non-profit groups and humanitarian organizations that could benefit from any help given. Hope Haven Belize caters to underprivileged families and children. Saga Humane Society always needs help with the stray cat and dog population. Our Town Library can use a little help too. Hope this helps give you some insight on the needs of the island.
