International Women’s Day 2018 – Honoring Our Women Employees

Belize joins many countries around the world in observing today, March 8, as International Women’s Day – a day inscribed in history to commemorate women’s rights. Adopted by the United Nations in 1975, each year sees a celebration of the amazing social, cultural, economic and political achievements of women. The theme for International Women’s Day 2018 is ‘Time is Now: Rural and urban activists transforming women’s lives’. Our resorts’ housekeeping team primarily comprises of women employees, so, what better way to shine light on these hardworking individuals than making today all about them.

A day in the life of House Keepers!

Most would agree that working in the hospitality industry requires a fervent passion for the roles they play. And oftentimes, the people that make up your hotel beds, pick up after you, clean your toilets, tidy up your rooms and ensure a clean overall appearance are the ones that provide comfort and relative ease to visiting guests.

Our housekeeping team form an integral part in the running of the day to day operations. The resort understands that the work they do is physically demanding and therefore appreciation is shown at every level. Did you know that Housekeepers clean an average of 10 to 12 rooms a day? While we know that these roles are rather thankless jobs, the resorts guests have rated our housekeeping service as top-notch, efficient and timely. The team is comprised of experienced individuals who have served the industry for over a decade. Smiling personalities like Esmy, Samantha, Keisha and Miriam shine bright with the work they do on a daily basis. Believe us when we say these ladies are neat freaks! “I’m personally dedicated to my work,” Ms. Esmy said in Spanish, wiping smudge marks from a bathroom mirror in villa unit E1. “This job has been a blessing for me over the years,” she said after a recent Tuesday shift. A fun fact is that they have developed a tangible camaraderie among them, they crack jokes, and cover each other’s shift when needed; there is no discrimination based on where they come from. They are a sisterhood working through long shifts, even holidays to make the guests stay a clean and memorable one. This fantastic team of suite maids have established distinguished reputations as organized, attentive and conscientious individuals over there working tenure at our luxury beach resorts.

You will find your villa relatively spic and span whenever you step out for the day and request housekeeping service. One would need to be passionate about housekeeping in the hospitality because curveballs get thrown all the time, since all changes are dependent on what each guest wants and expects. After a full day of bending, lifting, wiping, polishing and scrubbing, you can only imagine that there feet stay in agony and muscles hurt in places that they didn’t even know they had. One would be surprised at what goes on behind the scenes before your awaited arrival. Some guests say that these ladies do too much. But if it brought total satisfaction to the guest, why not? Isn’t that what’s it all about?

If in the event you see any of our housekeeper’s on-site, make sure to say hello; they’ll greet you right back with a big smile!

Practice the classic one in one out rule of housekeeping and you will never have to spend time decluttering again.
