Bird Watching in Ambergris Caye
Alongside Costa Rica and Mexico, Belize is located within the Mesoamerican Biological Corridor, one of the most ecologically diverse areas of the world. More than 600 different avian species live in Belize and dozens more are regular visitors on their annual migration, making the country a bird watching paradise.
An additional benefit for birdwatchers in Belize is that all of the unspoiled natural areas perfect for finding birds are also close to some of the top vacation destinations in the country, including mysterious Mayan ruins, the gorgeous islands and atolls in the middle of the Belize Barrier Reef, lazy jungle rivers perfect for an inner tube ride, rolling hills, fir-covered mountains, and old-growth pristine rainforests. The nature reserves are also a great place to see native fauna like crocodiles, manatees, monkeys, iguanas, tapirs and even jaguars.
Ambergris Caye, one of the most popular tourist destinations with beautiful beaches and ample diving and snorkeling opportunities, is also one of the best places in Belize to bird watch. More than 200 species of birds live on Belize’s largest island, including hummingbirds, spoonbills, the pink ibis, ospreys, sea hawks, herons, egrets, chachalacas and the famous laughing falcon.
The island of Ambergris Caye has two different bird sanctuaries, making it an ideal spot for catching a glimpse of elusive and rare species.Watch Full Movie Online Streaming Online and DownloadWatch movie online The Transporter Refueled (2015)
“I was staying at Banyan Bay when I mentioned to one of the staff that I’d love to see some birds during our trip,” says John Morgan of Cooperstown, New York. “I had no idea there were two different bird sanctuaries on the island so I was quite happy to get a chance to put my binoculars to good use. In just a single day, I spotted green herons, an entire colony of woodpeckers, several pelicans and ospreys, as well as a flock of ruddy turnstones. My favorite picture though was of a yellow-headed parrot caught in mid-flight. Fabulous!”
Guided full-day and half-day bird-watching trips are available from Banyan Bay. The best bird-watching sites on the island are also a great place to pick up seashells, perfect natural souvenirs for the whole family to remember their fabulous vacation in Belize.
