San Pedro Carnival – February
Starting three days before Lent on Ash Wednesday, the streets of San Pedro fill with locals who wear masks and engage in riotous contests to throw paint at each other until everyone is covered in a rainbow of colors.
San Pedro Lagoon Reef Eco Challenge – April
For anyone who loves sea kayaking, this unique competition spans two days and over 42 miles. Starting on the main lagoon of Ambergris Caye, the race continues on through the many lagoons of Northern Ambergris Caye, winds its way up to Bacalar Chico and Robles Point until it ends with a wild celebration at the finish line in downtown San Pedro.
San Pedro Lobsterfest – June
The lobster season kicks off in June in Belize, and San Pedro holds a huge festival every year to celebrate the occasion. For an entire week, a series of fun events are held, culminating with chefs from local restaurants competing in a huge lobster cook-off.
Dia de San Pedro – June
On this day, the entire community turns out to celebrate the island’s patron saint, with a fair, multiple cultural dances, fishing tournaments, and plenty of fun parties.
The International Costa Maya Festival – August
The most popular festival in all of Belize, the Costa Maya festival attracts visitors from all over the country and around the world. One of the star attractions is the beauty pageant featuring local ladies and competitors from around Central America. The festival also features lots of live music, international celebrities, and a wide variety of food events.
Tres Pescados Slam Tournament – August
The largest fly-fishing competition in Belize kicks off every summer in Ambergris Caye, with over 20 teams fighting to complete the coveted Grand Slam of tarpon, permit fish, and bonefish.
